Well I did wake up Estala early enough and we were on the road by 10a.m.  sharp.   With the GPS programmed I quickly realized I could make it to Spokane in one day no problem, so that was the destination for today.  I decided on taking highway 2 across the pass since it was would be a very scenic drive and we could make good time.  The weather was on the brink of rain until we crested the pass and then blue skies opened up before us.   We stopped for lunch in Leavenworth, which is Bavarian knock off tourist town, for lunch and the proceeded on to Spokane to my friend Aaron and Jenni’s house.  We finally rolled into their house about 8:00, just in time for dinner.  As I was unloading/showing off the bike in their driveway a couple guys drove buy on older BMW’s  and were intrigued by my home on wheels so they came back to get a second look.   I have found that there are two types of people who really love motorcycles, little kids who think you are a the closest thing to a rock star when you ride by and boys like myself who never grow up and are as excited as a child on Christmas morning when looking at bikes (these two guys definitely where in that group).  Well after an hour or so of talking motorcycles the went on there way and Aaron had dinner almost ready.  For dinner Aaron had allot of wine, a great salad,  potatoes, and a steak he pretended he cooked.  When we the steak was cooked Aaron quickly volunteered to take the slice of meat that still had ice in the middle, pretty sure a good vet could have had that cow back on its feet in 5 minutes.  Well after a good meal and an even better Jean Claude VanDamme movie it was time for bed.

Today I planned a short ride from Spokane to Missoula so we were in no hurry to get on the road.  Once we rolled out of bed Arron cooked us some really good omelets and even gave us the full tour of Spokane.  So after a nice relaxing morning we were on the road to Missoula Montanna.  Once we arrived in Missoula we found a nice state campground right outside of town and settled in for the evening.

Waking up fairly early I decided to go for  a morning jog but quickly found the campground was very small so it was quite a short jog this morning.  After packing up camp we got on the road.  We took Interstate 93 south which leads straight to my parents house in Mackay Idaho.  It was a very nice scenic drive with lots of ranches and farms on the way.  You can definitely tell it is spring time because all of the horses have their colts and all the baby cows in the field were out playing , I even saw a flock of Canadian geese with their goslings crossing a field.

While I was in Spokane Arron told me of some hot springs I had to visit just south of a town called Salmon so I was keeping my open for those.  After I passed through Salmon I couldn’t find them so I gave in and asked a local for directions, he quickly told me they were just a couple miles down the road so after another 30 minutes of driving up and down the highway I finally a dirt road which lead to the parking area.  The hot springs where about a 2 mile hike up a pretty steep trail but where definitely worth it.  It felt good to stretch the legs after being on the bike.

Once we got to the hot springs I met the first nudist cowboy I have ever met besides my late Uncle Denny.  Willy was a real cowboy who owned a 1600 acre ranch in Montana and came to these hot springs once a month regardless of the weather.  I can honestly say I was that excited about hanging out with a  60 year old naked cowboy but after a while you didn’t even notice and he turned out to be a really interesting guy.  Well after soaking for a solid 2 hours in the springs we made the hike back down the hill  to the bike.

Riding the bike after an amazing hike and soaking in natural hot springs was one of the greatest feelings ever.  It was about 7 o’clock so the sun was starting to go down and it was one of those rare moments when everything in the world just seemed to fit.

We finally  rolled into Mackay about 9:30 p.m.

Today was pretty low key just lounging at my parents house enjoying a lazy Saturday afternoon.   I spent most of the day going through my gear eliminating clothes and refining my gear.  After trimming down my gear we took the dogs to lake and threw the stick  for them.    Finishing the day off with a nice steak dinner with some really good grilled garlic/tomatoes it was time for bed.
