I spent most of the day drinking water and recovering from last night before heading out for another night on the town.  The town was much quieter today so I was glad to call it an early night.

The plan for today was to head to Sarajevo to meet a fellow American who has been living there for the last 4 years working for USAID.   Mike answered some questions I had posted on a motorcycle forum on the internet and recommended I come to Sarajevo and promised a free place to stay.  Well never passing up an opportunity of free room and board off I set to Sarajevo.    It was a short 2 hour ride from Mostar to Sarajevo.   After meeting up with Mike and getting situated we decided to head off for ride of the area and see some of the countryside around the city.  Our first stop was a the ski hill where part of the 1984  Winter Olympics was held.   The country side around Sarajevo is very beautiful, it was very rocky and mountainous, almost reminding of Ireland but a mountainous version.    As luck would have it as we were passing a small village we noticed allot of cars and people so we decided to investigate, it turned out there was a large folk festival going on.  So after eating some local cuisine and watching Bosnian line dancing we decided to head back into town.      Once at Mikes we sat around for a couple hours sharing travel stories and discussing motorcycles before calling it a night

Sarajevo isn’t a very big city and has a population of about 300 or 400 thousand people so it didn’t  take me too long to explore the city and get a general feeling of the city.   Sarajevo is busy city still trying to recover from the scars of war,  you can clearly see the high unemployment by how busy the café’s are all day long.   Since people really don’t have anything to do during the day they will sit in one of the many cafes all day and drink the same cup of coffee.   I definitely stood out walking around,  I was quite clearly not Bosnian.  At one point a girl walked up to me and said my map had fallen out of my back pocket.   She later admitted to pulling the map out of pocket and saying I dropped it as an excuse to talk to me, quite clever but really I am much easier than that.  So after some ice-cream with my new friend I headed back to Mikes for dinner.  He invited a lady friend over and they made sushi for dinner,  since Bosnia really isn’t into sushi we didn’t have any raw fish but some quite good California rolls and smoked salmon with cream cheese, the food really made me miss the great sushi restaurants of San Francisco.

Well today was pissing down rain so I decided to stay another day in Sarajevo and take advantage of Mikes hospitality a little longer.    I was supposed to meet Mike for lunch but due to a longer than usual meeting he could not make it (ahhh I remember those working days).  So off I set out to explore some more of the city and meet up with my friend Selma (the pick pocket from the day before).     After walking around the shopping area and partaking in the national pastime of the café Selma had to head home but insisted we meet up later that night.

Once back at Mikes we decided to head to Italian restaurant which he particularly enjoyed.     After dinner I met back up with Selma and her friend, damn she invited a friend, foiled again.
